SCC: Safety Certificate - Contractors
In nearly all sectors of industry external companies, hereinafter
called ‘contractors’, are increasingly being employed to carry
out technical service and work jobs. The arrangements they make and
procedures they follow with regard to safety, health and
environmental protection (SHE) have a major effect on the production
processes and the safety standard of the contracting company. This
is why an increasing number of customers demand of their contractors
an official quality verification of the SHE management system, i.e.
the Safety Certificate - Contractors (abbreviated SCC).
The purpose of the SCC is to establish a uniformly high standard of
security. As a consequence, the extent to which companies are forced
to carry out various inspections themselves is drastically reduced.
The enterprises concerned include, among others, planning and
engineering consultants, companies in the main construction and
ancillary industries, assembly companies in the metal-processing and
metal-working fields, electrical engineering and I&C equipment,
plus other service providers, such as industrial cleaners, security
companies, testing and calibration bodies.
The SCC is divided into two types of certification: limited and
unlimited certification. The former is designed for smaller
contractors with 35 employees or less, the latter for contractors
with more than 35 employees and/or which act as main contractors,
i.e. which co-operate with subcontractors.
Since March 1997 TÜV NORD has been one of the first certification
bodies to be approved as an SCC Certifier by an internationally recognised
accreditation body (the German TGA, "Trägergemeinschaft für Akkreditierung").
